About Us
We want to make plant based food healthier and easier
Plant based food does not have to be ultra processed, bland or unfulfilling.
At Mell's Kitchen our meals are freshly prepared using whole food ingredients and we do not use oils in our cooking processes.
We want to make meal time easier for busy people without them having to compromise on values, health or taste.
But why do we do what we do?
Based in Stockport, we are a small business with a big heart. Mellissa Strickland is the Mell of Mell’s Kitchen and her values shape our vision for making healthy plant based food more accessible.
Mell’s Story
December 2023 and Mellissa, 40ish, running a successful sports therapy business and vegan for ten years, experienced nothing short of a personal miracle. After four miscarriages, years of trying for a baby, and years of setbacks, Mellissa’s daughter, Indigo was born, and life would never be the same again.
Rewind 9 months and the pregnancy was challenging. The cause of the earlier miscarriages had been diagnosed and Mellissa was required to take daily injections to prevent recurrence, a process that although successful led to gestational diabetes. Mellissa was determined to control this via diet rather than medication and she spent her time closely managing the nutritional content of the food she put in her body.
The birth itself was not straightforward and Mellissa spent a period of convalescence in hospital. A period where, alongside a beautiful, healthy baby, an idea was born. And that idea was Mell’s Kitchen.
While recuperating in a hospital bed and living on a diet of pre packaged, ready made plant based meals Mellissa realised that although the availability of plant based food was better than ever, the food itself was largely processed, calorific and uninspiring.
