Subscription

How do I subscribe?

Follow this link to our meal plan selection then simply click on the plan that suits you best. Select the meal plan you want and you will enter you details and create an account at the point of order.

How do I pause or cancel my subscription?

You can cancel easily at any time and we have made this very easy for you. Once you sign up to a subscription you will receive an email confirmation of your subscription and each week a confirmation will arrive to your inbox. To cancel, simply click on one of the emails and follow the cancellation instructions.

How long am I signing up for? What is the minimum commitment?

The minimum subscription term is just one week (minimum of 6 meals), which is paid for when you place your first order. After that, you can cancel your subscription any time before the next billing cycle.

How long until I receive my food after ordering?

Our cut off for orders is on Thursday at 11pm each week. We deliver by the following Tuesday.

How do I change my meal plan subscription?

Log into your account, click ‘Subscription’ then click the ‘Edit’ subscription button. You can then change to a different plan. This needs to be done before Thursday at 11pm to take effect for that week.

When will I be charged?

You pay for your initial order and then ongoing subscription payments are taken on the same day each week.

How much does Mell’s Kitchen cost?

The cost of your subscription will depend on the type and amount of meals ordered. Our minimum order is 6 meals, and our lowest price point is £4.98 per meal (5 day meal plan for 2 people). 

Is it the same food every week?

We currently offer 20 different meals allowing us to rotate meals on a weekly menu. You will not receive the same meal within a 2 week period. This rotation is detailed on each meal plan section. Subscribers to our email will receive early updates about new meals added to our plans. Our aim is to provide enough variation of our delicious food to keep things interesting!

How do I order 2 or more of the same meal?

We offer subscription plans for 2 people with a lower price point than 1 person meal plans. Select one of our meal plans today.

How do I create an account?

When you subscribe to one of our meal plans, an account will be automatically created for you on our system.

Do you offer any discounts to new customers?

We offer a 10% discount to new customers using discount code First10 which is entered at checkout.

Do you offer any rewards for existing customers?

We do! Our existing customers receive exclusive offers not available to new customers.

Do you offer any discounts to returning customers?

Follow us on Instagram or Facebook for any seasonal discounts that are available for returning customers.

 

Meals

Are all of your meals entirely plant based?

Absolutely! The reason our business exists is to make great tasting, healthy plant based food more accessible to busy people with similar values to ourselves.

Do you provide Nutritional Information on each meal?

Yes, just click on a meal plan and we provide information around each meal, including portion size, ingredients, allergens and nutritional content. On signing up to a subscription plan we will also email you an aftercare document detailing all of this information.

Are all of your meals under 500 calories?

Yes, and on top of this we use whole food ingredients in our recipes. We work hard to ensure meals have a low calorie content, yet high in nutrients.

Do you offer a high protein range?

Not yet. Some of our meals have a high protein content and this is detailed against each meal within our meal plan sections so you can check this before you buy. Our aim is to launch a specific high protein range in the near future.

I have a food allergy? Can I still order?

Allergens are clearly detailed in our meal plan section per meal. We do operate a kitchen where meals are prepared containing some allergens so despite rigorous separation processes there may be traces of soy, cereals, nuts and celery in our food. Please use the contact form on this link before placing an order if you suffer from an allergy.

How do I heat the meals?

Each of our meals come with its own heating instructions but as a rule you can heat our meals on the hob, just pop the box contents into a saucepan and heat over a medium setting for 3-4 minutes, stirring gently, until piping hot.

Alternatively just pop the meals in the microwave for 2-3 minutes (3mins - 900w, 3.5 mins - 800w, 4 mins - 700w). Then give it a stir and pop back in for another minute to ensure it is piping hot.

For our baked meals (lasagne, cottage pie, etc) just transfer the food into an ovenproof dish and heat for around 15-20 mins from fresh at Gas mark 6/200C/400F/190C (fan oven).

Can I freeze the meals?

Each meal plan contains a mix of meals that can either be frozen at the point of receipt or should be eaten fresh. We detail this in each meal plan selection and this is also included in our aftercare email following each order.

Should I defrost the frozen meals?

Yes. Defrost in the fridge for 24 hours.

Do you use oils, salts, preservatives or additives in your cooking?

We use no oil in our cooking processes or preservatives to extend the life of the food. All recipes include reduced quantities of salt and any additives are approved by the UK Food Standards Agency. All of our ingredients are listed in each meal plan. 

How is your food prepared?

We currently operate within a converted domestic kitchen with a separate area for Mell’s Kitchen and in our first month of trading we have been awarded  4* Health and Hygiene rating by the local authority. All meals are made by experienced and trained chefs with certifications in health and hygiene and allergen awareness.

How long do the meals last?

It depends how quick you eat! Jokes aside, we recommend that meals, if kept refrigerated, are used within 3 days. If freezing them then use within 3 months of freezing.

Do you offer gluten free?

We don’t offer a full gluten free range presently. We do have selected meals that are gluten free and these are detailed by meal in the meal plan section of our website.

 

Delivery

When will my order arrive?

You will receive a text message from our courier on the day of delivery specifying a delivery window. For customers based in the Stockport area we will message you directly specifying a delivery time within a 1 hour window.

Where do you deliver to?

We deliver to almost of mainland UK, excluding the highlands.

What day do you deliver?

Our normal delivery day is Tuesday.

Do you offer free delivery?

Yes, on orders over £60.

What if I’m not home?

As our meals are delivered fresh they cannot be returned to us. If you aren’t in, the delivery driver will follow the instructions you provide on our checkout page so please put down a safe place for us to leave the food if you are not likely to be at home.

Will the courier call me beforehand?

No.

How does food stay chilled during the delivery process?

For Stockport deliveries we use insulated bags to keep food cool. For anything sent by courier we use a combination of insulated paper and gel packs within our delivery boxes to keep food at chilled temperatures.

 

Packaging

Can I recycle the packaging?

Sustainability is very important to us. All of our packaging can be recycled responsibly.

We use cardboard containers, meal boxes and insulation and our plastic meal box lids can be recycled.

We use gel packs to keep fresh food cool during the delivery process. These can be recycled in normal household waste with other plastics. The liquid gel should be emptied first and disposed of in your general waste.
